The Second International Democracy Conference in Leipzig: We Are Democracy!
On October 13-14 in Leipzig, the second International Democracy Conference will be devoted to the topic of ‘Youth and Politics in a Dialogue’ under the motto ‘We are democracy!’. The conference is under the patronage of Bundestag President Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert.
The stability and continuity of democracy can only be guaranteed when young people actively shape and support it. It is with the youth that the future political and social powers lie. However, the fact is that the relationship between youth and traditional political institutions is usually not very strong. That is why the goal of this year’s International Democracy Conference in Leipzig ‘We are democracy!’ is the creation of an opportunity for constructive dialogue between politicians and young adults. Open Space and Work on 'Burning Topics'
The goal is to use the conference as a forum and podium for defining new forms of involvement, and for presenting those points agreed upon during the conference. This open space will unite those involved and offer a methodological framework for answering the burning topics of the relationship between the state and its youth in Europe which come up during the conference. Following thereafter, the working groups should take up the impulse of the participants and develop further suggestions and requirements.
Target Group: 18-27 year olds from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe
The conference focuses on youth and university students between the ages of 18 and 27. Around 450 interested participants are expected in Leipzig in October, including around 100 young people from Leipzig itself, representatives of the European youth parliament, young people from Central and Southeastern Europe and from the Leipzig partner cities. Furthermore, the representatives of the countries and local councils, as well as various youth institutions, will be in attendance.
