On December 12, 2011 Kyiv hosted the training on raising awareness of breast cancer for active girls and young women interested in improving own knowledge and ready for further collaboration with the UWF.
Today very few young women are deeply aware of breast cancer problem, and those who gathered in the training hall had different, but absolutely serious motivations to participate.
«The training topic urged me to think about topicality of breast cancer problem, as I live in the West of Ukraine, in rather detached region of Precarpathia, where the level of morbidity is rather high, while women's awareness of the disease is low.
It's sad to acknowledge own ignorance of this issue, unpleasant is also the fact that women do not care of their health. But understanding of social importance and comprehension of responsibility to people around encourage me to be more active, deepen my knowledge to assist in improving life quality of women living nearby and increase their access to information. As awareness is the first step to defining the essence of the problem, forming self-awareness and, what is the main thing, further care of our women's health!» (Blyznyuk Lyudmyla, Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region)
Owing to the work of wonderful trainer Viktoriya Vernich the participants received answers to many questions, learned a lot of new, topical and important information, got inspiration for future work.
The training became the first stage of campaign directed at raising young women's self-awareness of responsible attitude to own health and involving youth to activities of informing about breast cancer problem.
As soon as in the beginning of the year 2012 the participants will organize informational meetings for local communities in many cities and towns of Ukraine. During these sessions the public will receive general information about breast cancer and will watch video.
Ukrainian Women's Fund is sure that involvement of First Step program participants in the Initiative will contribute to wider dissemination of knowledge about this disease among women, while young leaders themselves will have more responsible attitude to own health.
During 3 years Ukrainian Women's Fund has been implementing the program aimed at creating a dynamic global network of dedicated activists with the skills, knowledge and vision to play a strategic role in shaping the country’s response to the breast cancer crisis.
